The mutant underground location wasn't much fancy, but it was a home, a safe haven. And there's a really good Chinese takeout place close enough — sometimes, Lorna can't resist the temptation of fried rice and eggrolls. Tonight, as a storm rages outside, cracking thunder and strikes of lightning, it was totally worth the walk in the pouring rain to go get some dinner for her and Clarice; everyone else either already ate or passed on the offer, which, uh, their loss really.

"So, after this..." Lorna starts, putting the bag on the table, and starting to take out the boxes and chopsticks. "..When was the last time you went bowling?" Lorna could use a night out, really.

If you tie a sleeping bag to it like a 'seat belt', hell yeah.

It may not have been fancy but it was better than what Clarice was used too. There were no bars to keep her in here. She was free, she was with other mutants. The Chinese had been a great idea, she had no idea how hungry she was until she actually smelt the food.

"Bowling?" Clarice raised her eyebrows in surprise. "I... I don't even know if I've been bowling."

I have the number of a healer mutant so extra dose of no fear.

"Then we'll definitely have to go. It's pretty lowkey, but not as dull as golf. Knocking shit down is the fun part." Awww yeah. Of course she'd say that. "If you wanna go after the place closes — I have entering and exiting down to a freakin' science." Though Clarice's method of travel would also be faster.

Clarice couldn't help but smile a little, something she rarely did. She isn't used to being able to just go and do things for fun. She isn't used to having people she can rely on - friends.

"I've never understood golf, it looks so... boring."

Not just friends here, a family. A family of awesome mutants, at that. "It's because nothing saturated with rich white men looks exciting. And that's basically who plays golf, like, let's be real here." Tell us how you really feel about political commentary, Lorna.

A family. It had been a long time since Claire had been able to call anyone that and the one she had she would rather not think about. It hurt too much, no good had come from it. Until they had found her she had been alone, she had now focus. Now that she had someone - multiple someone's to care about and cared about her in return it was making her powers stronger. It was still a work in progress, but she was learning to embrace it instead of the fear that normally gripped her.

"That would probably be why I don't like it then," she shook her head. Rich white men, just what the world needed.

That gets a small nod and a wry look in agreement. "So what else is it that you do like?" That was a good way to get to know her better -- they might not have lives like everyone else does, but they sure as hell all have personalities (despite what people like Sentinel Services would have the rest of the humans believe).

I'm glad ♥ which sounds cheesy but — truth.

"I don't know," she made a face. "Warm jelly doughnuts." It wasn't as if she ever had time to really find out what she liked. She had spent so long in hiding or on the run she had never had time to do anything. She had no hobbies and no real interest other than surviving until the next day.

"Strawberry or blackberry? Extra glaze on top? Sprinkles?" She lifted her eyebrows playfully, since she thought the answer was maybe a little sarcastic.

"Raspberry," Clarice answered. "With powder." Although she wouldn't really say no to any type of warm jelly doughnut. How many nights had she only gotten by on eating stale ones? It made warm doughnuts even better.

"Then we gotta make a run for two dozen of those soon too."

Can't ever have enough of those, honestly.

Clarice smiles, she can't help it. It's a rare thing for her to smile, even now that she's found her family - her new family. It was partly a defence mechanism, never allowing herself to get too happy or too comfortable because in her experience neither of those things lasted.

"I could open a portal to a doughnut shop." Because even when she was on the run she needed to eat. Even if it was usually stale seconds.
